DIRECTOR
Director Shannon Peitz has been working at Gretchen’s House since May of 2013. Previously she was a Director for 16 years at a center in Canton, Michigan. Shannon graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education from State University of New York College at Fredonia. Shannon has been married for 20 years and has two wonderful boys ages 11 and 15 who keep them very busy with hockey, baseball and lacrosse. In her free time, she loves to knit, read and be outdoors!  IMG_0218
SUPPORT STAFF
Program Director/Office Manager Danielle Weiner joined Gretchen’s House in 2007.  She has as Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood from Niagara County Community College and earned her B.A. in Education with a minor in Psychology from Dominican College.  Before taking on the role of Program Director/Office Manager, Danielle worked in both the I/T and Preschool programs as a teacher and then the Young 5’s program as a Head Teacher all at our Dhu Varren location.  Danielle has worked with children for the past ten years in both public schools and child care facilities.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.  In addition, Danielle enjoys traveling, reading and being with family and friends.  Danielle Wiener (2)

Building Resource Teacher Luz Figuereo joined Gretchen’s House in September of 2001.  She greatly enjoys this role because it gives her a chance to work in many classrooms and a variety of age groups.  Luz graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Human Development.  In her spare time Luz enjoys reading a variety of topics; some included are historical narratives, science and literature.  Luz also enjoys children’s books and feels it is rewarding to share a great book with the children.

Building Resource Teacher Diana Desinger has an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Schoolcraft Community college and is currently completing her an Associates in Applied Science Early Education at Oakland Community College. She has experience working with young children in preschool programs, homes and public school. She enjoys quilting, scrapbooking, reading, playing games and traveling Up North. Diana Desinger

INFANTS AND TODDLERS (upstairs)

Head Teacher Jessica Lapp has been with Gretchen’s House since August, 2006. Jessica earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Early Childhood with a History minor from Northern Michigan University. In her free time she enjoys camping, hiking, making jewelry, reading, cooking and spending time with friends and family.
Stacie McCartt has child care experience from working as a nanny and then as a teacher in a day care center before coming to Gretchen’s House.  Stacie plans to begin working towards her CDA (Child Development Associate) starting in the fall at WCC.  Stacie has a son, Mason and enjoys cooking, baking and spending time outdoors with him.  Stacie McCartt
Shateka Casterman graduated from Central Michigan University in 2011 with a degree in social work.  She first came to work for GH in January of 2012 until Feb of 2014 when she left to have her daughter, Madison.  She enjoys spending time with her family on neighborhood walks, long drives in the city, and hanging out at home. INFANTS AND TODDLERS (downstairs)
Head Teacher Allison Rogers has eight years of experience teaching Infants and Toddlers. She has been in the Infant/Toddler Room at GH Traver for 5 years. Allison earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, taking road trips, visiting lighthouses, and photography.
Chelsea Hendrickson has worked in the Infant/Toddler Room at Traver since July, 2013.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Design from the University of Michigan, with interests in Art Education and Art Therapy.  In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, sewing, painting, playing board games, and having Netflix marathons with her husband, Josh, and dog, Maggie. Teacher Mallorie Brazeau attended Michigan State University where she earned a BA in French, with minors in English and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) through the College of Education in 2012.  After school she worked in Farmington Hills in child care for a year.  During her spare time she enjoys gardening, cooking, and snuggling with her cats. PRESCHOOL

Preschool Head Teacher Molly Petruska is a recent graduate from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development and Learning and a minor focus in Entrepreneurship.  She hopes to one day open her own Child Development Center.  She has a passion for music and vocal performance.  Molly spent her childhood living in Las Vegas, Nevada and moved to Michigan in 2004.  During her free time, she enjoys going to Tigers games and spending time with her family and friends. Preschool Teacher Cassy Martin recently graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Early Childhood Development and Learning.  While finishing her last year at CMU she was an assistant teacher in a preschool and toddler classroom.  In her spare time, Cassy loves to be outside, and with her family.  Cassy is excited to be at Gretchen’s House and to get to know your family. Michelle Ormsby received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida and taught three years at the secondary level.  Most recently, Michelle was an instructional coach for  23 elementary school teachers and was the coordinator for a Principal preparation program in Detroit.  Michelle believes that when children’s need for safety and love are met, learning will happen naturally.  When not at Gretchen’s House, Michelle enjoys spending time with her daughter Grace and Husband Zach. COTTAGE PRESCHOOL/GSRP

Head GSRP Teacher Ashley Jones graduated from Alma College in Alma, MI with a Bachelor of arts degree in Elementary Education with minors in mathematics, language arts, and an early childhood endorsement. Ashley says she has always wanted to teach young children because she wants to provide them with a great starting point for their future. At Alma she played softball and participated in several service learning projects and organizations to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Ashley recently moved to Ypsilanti where she loves to spend time exploring the area and walking her dog! Go Blue! Ashley Jones
 GSRP teacher Jasmine Rogan was born and raised in Detroit. She currently attends Washtenaw Community College and plans to transfer to the University of Michigan – Dearborn to earn a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education.  Her career goals include teaching 3rd grade, and opening a 24-hour child care center.  Jasmine’s hobbies include traveling, writing poetry and reading fictional novels.  She spends a lot of time with family and enjoys participating in community service activities.  Jasmine Reese
